Literary fiction is a term that has become common use, since about 1970, mainly to distinguish "serious fiction" (ie, work with claims to literary merit) from the many types of fiction gender and popular fiction. Overall, literary fiction focuses more on style, psychological depth, and character, while conventional commercial fiction (the "pageturner ') focuses more on narrative and plot. Literary fiction includes works written as short stories, novels, novel and novel sequence.
